Grandstream's New GXP2170 Brings Big New Power to Operations
By Steve Anderson, Contributing Writer

It's easy to brush aside the desktop phone; it doesn't contribute to the mobile workforce, and really, it works against it by ensuring that the office desk is that much more powerful. Sometimes, a good desk phone can be just the thing to spark productivity in a big way, and Grandstream's new GXP2170 has plenty of claim for advancing productivity.

The Grandstream GXP2170 boasts a wide array of communications tools, and all from one handy desktop platform. It not only works with 12 lines, but also with six session initiation protocol (SIP) accounts, and even offers 48 separate busy lamp field (BLF) keys for added versatility. With a BLF key, users can quickly tell if someone on the same private branch exchange (PBX (News - Alert)) is busy or not. It boasts a 4.3 inch color liquid crystal display (LCD) and even allows for automatic Bluetooth pairing thanks to its built-in Bluetooth connectivity. Headset support allows for hands-free operation, which means users can put a keyboard to work as well, improving productivity that much more.

Those turning to SIP systems, whether such be IP-PBX, softswitch or IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), will be well taken care of here as well. The system can handle offerings from Asterisk (News - Alert), Broadsoft, Elastix, Metaswitch and several others besides.

Throw in full high-definition (HD) audio, power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, a USB port, five-way voice conferencing systems, support for 19 native languages and an encryption mechanism and the end result is a highly-versatile device that can deliver great connectivity and high value all from a standard desktop unit. Those interested in getting hands on one of these can do so now by contacting any part of Grandstream's worldwide distribution network and shelling out just $149 per unit.

Desktop phones generally aren't particularly “sexy” advances in technology, but a lot of business does still need to be done from a centralized office. It isn't just about those businesses that haven't caught on to the value of a mobile workforce yet, or about those businesses who somehow think having everyone under one roof is inherently more valuable. Some jobs just have to be done from the shop floor, and that means a desk phone can be a powerful and worthwhile tool.

With the Grandstream GXP2170, meanwhile, users get access to a host of tools, making this a Swiss army knife of desktop phones. While desk phones in general may be losing some ground in an increasingly mobile workforce, the GXP2170 has the sheer versatility to make it a force to be reckoned with in the field.
