IP Phones Need Endpoint Management in IoE World
By Alisen Downey, TMCnet Web Editor

When people think of the Internet of Things today, they might not include end-users within that sphere—but the fact of the matter is that the more things there are connected, the more seamless the operation will be overall. In this way, the Internet of Things concept has expanded to become the Internet of Everything (IoE), in which people, processes, data and devices (the traditional “things”) are brought together to enhance the relevancy of network connections and create a more seamless experience.

Companies are beginning to understand this, particularly in the IP phones market. While phones already fall under the umbrella of connected devices, what about the people who use them? In order to fully take advantage of the benefits IoE can offer, UnifiedFX—a Cisco (News - Alert) Solution Partner Program member—is deploying new innovations to improve upon the capabilities, performance and management of clients’ networks. Its newly release solution, PhoneView, has been designed specifically to make the management of Cisco IP phones easier than ever, whether it’s one IP phone or those of the entire office. It uses a streamlined, intuitive interface that users can access to handle all of these connections from a centralized location.

But beyond a unified management system, there are other benefits to using IP phones over traditional wireline phones—the most significant being that it is a virtual, and there for remote, solution. This means that employees can access their IP phone line from a multitude of devices, no longer tethered to their desks. Additionally, maintenance on IP phones can be carried out remotely, so that companies can avoid the added expense of on-site repairs.

"Critically, most phone-related issues (other than physical phone faults) that would previously have required a site visit can now be handled remotely, eliminating almost all remote site call-outs and therefore providing unparalleled Return On investment (ROI),” explained Phil Coll, CEO of UnifiedFX.

As IP phones proliferate throughout the business world, IP phone endpoint management solutions will also become more widely used in order to operate these phones efficiently and effectively. PhoneView offers many advanced features to help offices using IP phones make the most out of their equipment and services, and embrace the coming age of the Internet of Everything.
