IP Communications Can Mean Global Presence
By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

IP communications provider Talia recently expanded its presence by opening its first U.S. office in Washington, D.C. This move will help the company better serve its U.S.-based customers who have an interest in satellite communications.

"This is an exciting opportunity for us to work more closely with our U.S. clients. It will also provide us with a base as we continue expansion of our satellite and terrestrial services into Central and Latin America,” said Alan Afrasiab, CEO of Talia, in a statement.

This move highlights how much IP communications has made the world a smaller place; before there was IP telephony, businesses would often spend a lot of money to have a global reach, whether in costly legacy systems or opening more offices than was necessary.

Today, IP communications can allow companies to save money on their bottom line, allowing room in the budget to expand when necessary, and if they prefer to operate out of one office, reaching clients across the globe is easy.

With IP communications, businesses of all sizes have the option to host Web conferences, hire remote employees, collaborate with geographically dispersed staff, all while keeping their communications costs in check.

The major benefit for small and medium-sized businesses is the ability to add features that have only been affordable or available to large businesses. VoIP and Internet telephony are usually also more cost-effective when looking at long-term operating costs due to lower monthly fees and much lower costs to connect and complete calls.

IP communications means investing in systems that are also scalable when it comes to business growth. Starting with a small, dedicated phone system that fits your needs is a good way to control costs during the critical start-up phase. Then, as your business grows, you can move to a larger system that can accommodate additional employees and newer features, even adding locations that are in different countries.

Many analysts have said the future is in hosted IP systems, and as VoIP has evolved, it has done so with newer technologies like cloud computing. Many IP communications providers now have their platforms located in the cloud, which means it’s far easier to turn the tap on and off.

With new innovations taking place all of the time, IP communications has been a true constant, keeping communications costs and processes streamlined and efficient, no matter the location.
