snom Makes Waves with IP Phones at Enterprise Connect

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Enterprise Connect (News - Alert), formerly known as VoiceCon, gives the tech industry a platform to shout out the latest innovations in wireless, video, unified communications, SIP trunking, cloud, and voice solutions. This year at Enterprise Connect, snom technology AG (News - Alert) touted new generations of IP phones, which includes the 8xx series, 7xx series, and 3xx series.

According to this snom blog, the company was founded in Berlin in 1996 and has become known as a pioneer in the VoIP sector. snom specializes in developing VoIP telephones for business communications. The IP phones are engineered based on open standard SIP (session imitated protocol).

snom has reached out into 40 countries with its IP phones, working directly with telephone companies, Internet providers, and OEM partners. snom phones generally have a large number of functions meant to make business processes less complex. While function is key, the IP phones are made to a high amount of importance on security.

One of the biggest attractions at the convention, other than snom’s IP phones, was Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync, which is helping to merge IT and telecom with business and voice applications from one vendor. It can be used as hosted solution or as an on-premise service.

With snom’s reputation as a leader in the IP phones industry, it offers powerful integration with Microsoft. snom offers an entry-level IP phone line called the snom 300 UC edition, as well as the snom 370 UC edition, and the advanced system known as the snom 821 UC edition. All of these solutions are well-tested, certified on SIP-based platforms, and are ready for Microsoft’s new solution that is promising unified communications improvements.

Enterprise Connect gave snom the chance to show off its interoperability capabilities: using Chinook Communications Total Connect hosted bundle, snom was able to connect to a Lync server, which was located across the room from the snom booth. The successful link to Lync was a hit with industry insiders in attendance.

snom’s IP phones represent the cutting edge of SIP telephony. They have a rugged construction and a performance record to match. Whether you need something that simple IP phones can handle, or IP phones that offer high-quality audio and three-party conference bridging, snom has a platform that fits all business needs.

snom has even ventured into the touch screen realm with the snom 870 IP phone, which was given an award by the Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Services Providers’ Association. Indeed, the office desk phone is not dead, nor is it predicted to go the way of the pager.
