Expanded Compatibility With Microsoft Lync Server 2010 for snom IP Phones

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

The recent UC Expo in London was the launching pad for some great news in tech. snom was at the IP phones forefront, as the company announced that it has expanded compatibility with Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync Server 2010 for its line of IP desktop phones.

Phones included in the compatibility are the snom 300 UC edition, snom 370 UC edition and snom 821 UC edition.

“The snom UC edition endpoints provide users with an added layer of voice functionality,” explains Warren Barkley, general manager for Lync at Microsoft. “Thanks to their seamless compatibility with the Microsoft Lync Hosted Pack, the snom devices make it possible to extend voice and presence features to a variety of additional areas of business. This makes the snom UC edition a key component of the Microsoft Lync Hosted Pack Reference Architecture Partner Ecosystem.”

Microsoft tests and qualifies phones, headsets, webcams, conference room devices, PCs and other devices for Lync under its Compatible Devices Program. Optimized for Microsoft Lync means that a communications device will provide a high quality user experience, with"just works" installation, audio and video, and a lower total cost of ownership.

Compatible IP phones come in different models designed to meet specific business needs, including a rich information worker experience, a basic desk phone, common area phone, or conference room phone.

“snom’s UC edition devices are a great choice for use with hosted unified communications and collaboration solutions such as the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Multitenant Pack for Partner Hosting. Their dual IP and UC compatibility provides a fully-featured handset that is compatible with whatever platform it is paired with,” said Dr. Michael Knieling (News - Alert), snom’s COO.

snom showcased the interoperability at its booth 717 at UC Expo in London.
