IP Phone 2010 Year in Review

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

After a successful year, IP phone provider snom has a lot to be proud of looking back on its accomplishments in 2010 as well as a lot to look forward in the upcoming 2011 calendar year.

To kick start 2010, snom IP phone manufacturer was honored with an award for “Most Innovative VoIP Product” at The Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Services Providers’ Association at its annual ITSPA Awards event. The award, which snom won for its 870 phone, recognizes companies that have delivered a dynamic and user-friendly product that has proven its value in the VoIP marketplace, according to ITSPA.

Later in the year, snom unveiled a new digital community, snomchannel.com, to support its growing ecosystem of value added resellers, distributors, partners and customers in the Americas. The initiative includes a micro-website, a newsletter, and social media outlets such as Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter populated by information, special offers, and community interaction aimed specifically at regional VARs and distributors dealing with SIP communications, IP telephony, VoIP, IP-PBXs, office communications servers (OCS) and other unified communications products and services.

In July, the IP phone manufacturer launched the DECT (News - Alert) telephone version of the snom m9, which the company claims is the world's first cordless IP phone that can be integrated with the snom OCS edition in a Microsoft (News - Alert) Office Communications Server 2007 R2 environment.

One of the bigger accomplishments snom has seen this year is the launch of its all new IP Phone (News - Alert) offering snom ONE. snom ONE is available in three versions; snom ONE free is a downloadable version for up to 10 extensions, snom ONE yellow offers an affordable solution for companies with up to 20 extensions and snom ONE blue offers up to 150 extensions and features that can support up to five different businesses off of the same IP PBX.

To end the year off in Decemeber, snom announced its interoperability of its IP Phones with Microsoft Lync. snom’s most widely deployed IP phone, the snom 300, has been tested by Microsoft for interoperability with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

2010 proved to be a successful year for snom. Stay tuned to the company’s IP Phone channel exclusively on TMCnet to see what’s in store for snom in 2011.
