Snom's IP PBX Phone Hits the Market
By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Industry observer Adam Stone notes, correctly, that it isn’t every day a phone vendor brings an IP PBX (News - Alert) to market.
“Especially,” as he says, “a well-established provider of end-user SIP devices like German developer and manufacturer snom technology AG (News - Alert).”
Earlier this month snom released snom ONE, which company officials describe as a fully provisioned phone system. Stone notes that the new product “aims to serve the needs of small and mid-size businesses,” quoting Director of Business Development Mike Storella (News - Alert), who says "it’s really all about the intelligent endpoints getting sold.”
Snom’s PBX has all the functionality of standards-based IP PBX platforms, Stone says, “including up-to-date features like simultaneous ringing of desktop and cell phone, multiple extension aliases and centralized address book. It supports hot-desking, voicemail and a Web interface for provisioning and management.”
Earlier this month TMC’s (News - Alert) Stefania Mosca reportedthat since its release last month, snom’s newest IP phone system, snom ONE, “has been making headlines on a number of technology news forums.
As she notes snom is already known for providing Voice-over-IP “VoIP” telephones based on open standard for enterprise communications, and now “has taken its expertise and dedication to VoIP phones a step further to create a SIP based PBX telephone system with snom ONE.”
In October snom ONE was featured in a Network World (News - Alert) article explaining that all versions of snom ONE are all software-based and work on Windows, Linux and MAC OS computers to provide both Session Initiation Protocol “SIP” trunking or PSTN connectivity. The software is designed to be plug and play with snom's phones.
Stone says snom’s newest offering “integrates with snom's phones, something the company is hoping will prove a big advantage in the marketplace. While snom devices already mesh easily with most IP PBXs, SMBs are often wary of buying from multiple vendors. When they see a phone and a PBX coming from the same vendor, they may perceive this as a tempting proposition.”
