IP Phones: snom's UC Edition IP Phone Systems Compatible with Microsoft Lync

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

Microsoft (News - Alert) tests and qualifies phones, headsets, webcams, conference room devices, PCs and other devices for Lync under its Compatible Devices Program. The seal of compatibility is a symbol that IP phones and IP phone systems will provide a high quality user experience, with “just works” installation and a lower total cost of ownership.

snom’s UC edition line of IP phones and IP phone systems, including the snom 300, snom 370 and snom 821 are all Microsoft Lync 2010 qualified while their UC600 IP phone was designed specifically for Microsoft Lync compatibility.

The snom 370 is a great selection for SMEs, as its ease-of-use and security and interoperability are its prime features. The IP phone includes dual Ethernet connection, power over Ethernet, 12 programmable function keys as well as high graphics display. Caller information can be customized easily through XML to depict the information the user wants displayed.

The snom 821 offers a little more for those who need a little more. Integrated with a 1Gb switch, the 821 is a perfect choice for conferencing, as it offers 5-way conferencing by bridge on phone. With up to 100 entries each of missed, received and dialed calls, keeping track of what happened and when doesn’t have to be a chore. The 821 also comes in two colors for variety.

The snom 300 UC edition is the first open-based SIP IP phone to natively register to the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Microsoft Lync. This IP phone is a good match for every day work scenarios, with features including 2 Ethernet ports, a headset connection, 4 SIP identity accounts and 6 programmable function keys.

Finally on the list of Microsoft Lync IP phone systems is the snom UC 600, a desk phone designed to make PC calls with plug and play capability all via USB.

Features include two-line backlit LCD display, volume control, headset key, all with great voice quality and incoming call control.

Powered by Lync, IP phones have full support to PBX (News - Alert) functionalities, access to calendar and contacts, rich conferencing, extended functionalities when connected to the PC, and integrated security and manageability. snom’s line of phones meet specific business needs while being optimized for Microsoft Lync.
