Yealink: Design and Cost Key Differentiators for IP Phones
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
When it comes to IP phones, it’s not easy to stand out in a market of highly functional, high tech communications devices.
But if the price tag’s (News - Alert) reasonable and the design is sleek and functional, an IP phone maker has a fighting chance.
Cost and design were two big stand-out factors at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair and China Sourcing Fair, held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center and Asia World Expo. And because of these factors, Chinese IP phone maker Yealink (News - Alert) told TMCnet that hundreds of attendees perusing aisles of gadgetry stopped by its booth to check out its SIP-T2X and video phone models.
Equipped with a TI TITAN chipset and TI voice engine, HD voice technology, SMS capabilities, an XML phonebook, six VoIP accounts and a 132 x 160 graphic LCD interface, Yealink’s loaded SIP-T28P “Executive IP Phone (News - Alert)” was one of the most awe-inspiring models among business pros, said Yealink spokeswoman April Huang. Among small business representatives looking to make the transition to VoIP, Yealink’s SIP-T20P “Entry Level IP Phone” and the SIP-T22P “Professional IP Phone” turned heads, said the spokeswoman.
“Because these phones are different levels -- T-20 and T22 are entry levels but T-28 is the enhanced one -- they are also differed in price,” Huang told TMCnet. “They satisfy different market needs.”
Although Yealink and other IP phone makers hope to see more consumer adoption of VoIP phones in the near future, it is the business market, by far, that represents the largest customer base to date.
“Our phones are office-designed, with a full range of functions to satisfy and convenience businesses,” Huang said.
Meanwhile, as interest in video phones increases worldwide, Yealink said it could see a new player in the category of “most popular.” Yealink’s signature VP-2009 video phone made its debut on the trade show circuit this year. Because it is less expensive than most video phones on the market today, a number of show attendees took interest, Huang said.
“The design people like,” Huang said. “And I should say it is most cost-effective. From what we see, the price now for most video phones is expensive.”
