IP Phone Maker Breaks Language Barrier in Voice Communication

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

IP phone maker Lotus Communication has released a telephone service that allows users to communicate naturally with someone who doesn’t speak their language.

Known as the Instant Translation Phone or ITP, the service is available on IP phones supplied by the company. Users can also download the VoIP mobile app INAtalk to use the free beta version of ITP.

ITP makes it possible for you to communicate with your foreigner friend or business partner in their language. You need to speak only your language, and the ITP will instantly translate the speech and deliver it in the language comprehensible to the listener.

All you need to do to make this happen is either use the IP phone provided by the IP phone maker or download INAtalk on Android or iPhone (News - Alert) app stores. You only need to dial a preset number that the company provides. The listener at the other end need not do anything.

The company is currently running the beta version of ITP for INAtalk users. The full version of ITP is expected to be released next month.

Lotus Communication is a subsidiary of Netel Technology Limited, which focuses on IP-based telecommunications services. The company is planning to expand services in Asia Pacific region as well as other countries by partnering with other telecommunications service providers.

Meanwhile another IP phone maker, Yealink hit headlines recently when it announced partnership with Surf Communications (News - Alert) Solutions (SURF), a global provider of high-capacity multimedia communication systems and applications, to promote video communications in enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses (SMB).

The growth of IP phones will make video calling as the future of mobile communications. Video desktop phones have become price accessible to an increasing number of enterprises. According to Gartner (News - Alert), 90 percent of all videoconferencing still takes place among endpoints in the same organization.
