How the IP-PBX Fits Into the Enterprise: SOA, Web Services and Business Process Integration

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

IP communications has much farther-reaching capabilities than merely transporting voice and data. By integrating this technology with fundamental business processes (e.g. accounting, HR, manufacturing, shipping and inventory control), companies can achieve significant operational improvements.

The tying together of disparate business processing using IP communications is, to a large degree, the idea behind using service oriented architecture (SOA) and Web service environments to build business applications—communications related or otherwise.

SOA is a complex topic, which is why the presenters of SOA: Special Double Session, to be held at the upcoming INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO East at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida, decided to give it more than the standard amount of time allotted for conference presentations.

This session will take place on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. It will be presented by Greg Pisano, director of market development at BlueNote Networks, Todd Landry, senior vice president at NEC Sphere and representatives from LignUp Corp. (News - Alert) and Market Strategy and Analytics Partners.

Pisano, Landry and the other presenters will explain the significance of standards like SIP, while focusing on infrastructure requirements needed to bring together business processes. This includes network availability, disaster recovery, scalability and security. Also on tap: how Web developers can quickly create and deploy communications-enabled applications without needing specialized telephony knowledge.

Enterprises can achieve significant levels of business agility by combining communications-enabled business processes while navigating toward SOA. This session provides a roadmap toward that goal.
