By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Axis Communications, a network video solutions provider, has just debuted a new portfolio of Q60-C PTZ Dome Network IP (News - Alert) Cameras and its Q7424-R Media Server Video Encoder, which have both been created from the ground up to work successfully even in the harshest environments.

Built according to military standard MIL-STD-810G, the company’s Q60 cameras have the ability to pan, tilt and zoom and will work in environments that have temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 75 degrees Celsius.

The Q60-C can simply be connected to a media converter switch that contains two SFP optical fiber slots and two RJ-45 connectors that power a network link through fiber optic of standard cables. The media converter switch allows the camera to integrate seamlessly with external alarm devices through two configurable input/output ports, and to 12 V power.

All of the company’s cameras boast the ability to support day and night functionality, wide dynamic range, H.265 and Motion JPEG, automatic guard tour, alarm management and video capabilities such as auto-tracking, Active Gatekeeper, and other video analytic applications, according to a recent piece featured on the ARN website.

Becoming available on the market in March, the cameras range from $3,565—$4,335.

On the other hand, the Q7424-R video encoder can rapidly encode one to four analogue video sources, and supports key IP surveillance features such as H.264 and Motion JPEG, two-way audio, Edge storage with the built-in SD/SDHC memory card slot and Power over Ethernet (IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3af), the article revealed. It also contains a 1gbps SFP slot for fiber connection and an Ethernet port.

Some of the innovative functionalities that the Encoder contains are a tampering alarm, motion and audio detection and support for Axis Camera Application Platform applications on one video channel.

Additionally, the Axis Q7424-R will be available In March for a price tag (News - Alert) of $1,155.

Technology that is similar to IP media servers not only powers multiple functions, but offers significant advantages unseen with earlier equipment.
