The idea of driving face-to-face collaborations is gaining ground as companies continue to expand, support remote employees and cut back on unnecessary travel. The introduction of Skype (News - Alert) paved the way for video communications at a low cost. The more recent wave of IP communications innovations has led to the availability of high quality interactions without high budget equipment.

A recent IT Portal article featured the results of a Canalys UC Market report covering EMEA forecasts. According to this research, shipments of business video devices are expected to spike between 2012 and 2014. Companies of all sizes are recognizing the value in efficient business communications managed across the corporate network and supported through IP connections.

Furthermore, TMC (News - Alert) reported earlier this year on research from Global Industry Analysts. An analysis of the state of IP communications technologies showed that the global market for video conferencing services will reach $2.5 billion by 2018. The biggest driver identified in this study was the need to cut travel costs.

Over the next 12 months, the democratization of video is expected as employees continue to drive the concept of collaborating on any device connected to the network. And, now that video conferencing technology is available to even businesses with small budgets and is easier to implement and use, IT administrators and business decision makers are more readily adopting the solution.

It, of course, doesn’t hurt that the desktop solutions available today are open, interoperable, easy-to-use, affordable and can suit any sized business, but other factors are also playing into this wide spread adoption. For instance, personal devices are now outpacing those provided by the IT department, and the functionality users have at their fingertips (and on their own dime) enable access to advanced applications and solutions that were once only open to those with access to large amounts of cash.

Likewise, collaboration is no longer just a buzzword thrown around to try and impress management. Employees are doing more with the applications they have at their fingertips to bring products to market sooner, get more done in less time and get input from knowledge leaders.

Plus, companies are investing in robust networks and virtualization strategies that more readily support video conferencing and other IP-supported applications. As these interactions are integrated into other network applications, the benefits for the business extend beyond travel savings and collaboration efficiency. And, newer solutions are being selected based on their ability to interoperate well with IP communications.

AireSpring is one provider in the IP communications space that is making waves – in a positive way. The company was recently recognized by the Telecom Association (News - Alert), a national professional membership organization with more than 3,800 telecom industry professionals. The Association recognized AireSpring with eight different awards and placed the company as the top next-generation carrier and provider of cloud and managed network services.
