If you don’t know a great deal about IP communications leader AireSpring (News - Alert), you might want to start taking notice as the company is quickly making a big splash in the IP communications market. From the widespread success of its MPLS Mesh product to the growing popularity of its cloud hosted IP PBX (News - Alert) offering, 2012 has been a momentous year so far for AireSpring.

“We are continuing to try to stay ahead of the technology shift in telecom, developing out the cloud type products people are looking for and their voice needs,” AireSpring’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Todd Regan told TMCnet of the message to take away about AireSpring this year. “The way we see it, people are moving away from TDM at a rapid pace and we want to be able to provide a solid network where they can get their data and layer as many voice and other products on top of that Internet circuit as possible.”

“We would like them to come to us for their Internet and then select all the other various products that they need to ride on top of that network – whether they choose MPLS Mesh as their connecting network or one of our dedicated Internet access products,” he added. “We can then deliver voice, Internet and services such as cloud hosted IP PBX and so many other services that we are testing right now.”

In case you have been in a snooze as of late and have not heard about AireSpring’s play in the marketplace, here are three things you need to know about the IP communications player.

It’s now easier to mesh networks with MPLS Mesh

Say goodbye to the days where it was difficult and cost prohibitive to mesh together the networks of all your remote office locations as AireSpring’s MPLS Mesh product is a multi-location enterprise product that makes it affordable and easy to do this process.

“With a typical MPLS configuration, a company would pick a single carrier and then they would just pay whatever that carrier charges for each location but with AireSpring’s MPLS Mesh you can pick a different carrier for each one of your remote locations and we mesh those together,” Regan said. “You can pick the lowest cost carrier for every one of your offices and then we securely mesh it all together into a single MPLS network with a single SLA, a single bill. It’s a huge advantage; it makes MPLS easy and affordable and it’s fully managed by AiresSpring.”

Unveiled last year, the MPLS Mesh network is touted as the ultimate product for organizations requiring secure T-1 and higher speed data networks with private network security as customers no longer have to find a carrier who can cover all of the remote offices. Some of the key features of the MPLS Mesh network include: lowest rates across multiple carrier networks; voice over MPLS (VoMPLS) available; single bill and single point of contact; custom solutions to deliver the architecture that you need and the ability to combine networks from multiple carriers, among other things.

The cloud just became simpler with AirePBX

Released earlier last year, AireSpring’s AirePBX, a cloud hosted PBX,  is one of its leading products, as consumers are flocking to the product and using it to replace their POTS service. AirePBX, offered over Airespring’s nationwide fully managed next generation IP backbone, offers all those features of standard telephone services that are needed plus additional features that come with its cloud hosted IP PBX offering.

“It’s kind of aimed more at the smaller sized companies so if they have under a couple hundred employees, the cloud hosted IP PBX is probably a good solution for them,” Regan said. “But companies of all different sizes have taken it up – school districts, hotels, and hospitals. We’ve had some people selecting that product that we never would have expected. We were thinking small business, but it ended up skewing towards the mid-market sized companies and a lot of them are doing it over MPLS as well.”

Those customers are tapping AireSpring’s cloud hosted IP PBX over MPLS Mesh which allows AireSpring to layer all of those voice products over MPLS Mesh . While it was introduced almost two years ago, AirePBX has “changed significantly” since then.

“It was a very simple product when we first released it and it has become quite sophisticated with new features and an all new backend,” Regan said.

AireSpring’s making a big splash in wholesale

You might not think it at first thought, but AireSpring has become such a major provider terminating minutes that it can now offer “extremely” low rates on a wholesale basis to those that need it.

“I don’t think anyone really thinks of AireSpring as a wholesale player, but we’ve really become one,” Regan said. “The silent killer product for AireSpring is our tremendous wholesale products and ability to deliver high capacity traffic and termination.”

While AireSpring has been offering wholesale to those who have asked for it for years, recently the IP communications company started offering it as an actual product and letting people know that it offers wholesale. In fact, AireSpring recently built a wholesale group – a team that does nothing now but wholesale.

“There is quite a robust support network internally to manage our wholesale clients, they have their own support staff, their own pricing and a very good product,” Regan said.
