How to Save Money on International Calling

International Calling

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Saving money on phone bills—this is a goal everyone can rally around. There are lots of ways to do so, and one of them is to choose an international calling service like that offered by Packetel, which ensures low per-minute rates to many parts of the world, from any phone—even your cell phone.

TMCnet asked Frank Tam, president at Packetel, to explain some of the ways his company’s long distance service is designed to help you save money on your phone bill each month. His points are expanded upon below.

No Extra Charges for Using Multiple Phones

You can use Packetel’s service from any phone, including your landline and cell, at no extra cost. Since most people place calls from different lines throughout the day, having the ability to access the same low rates from any location is very advantageous.

No Roaming Charges

Normally, if you make a call on your cellphone outside your home area, roaming charges are added to the cost of calls. Not so with Packetel’s long distance service. The service is used via a local access number.

Sensible Minutes Rounding

Some long distance plans round call sessions to the nearest three minutes. Packetel instead rounds to the nearest minute, which results in much more accurate minutes usage.

Prepaid

Budgeting for cell phone usage can be a very tricky process, since how much you pay in a given month is partially dependent on whether or not you “went over” your allotted number of minutes. Packetel’s long distance service acts like a calling card; you prepay for minutes, and are warned with a voice prompt if you don’t have enough minutes left to place a particular call. This means no surprises on your phone bill.

Competitive International Rates

Packetel’s long distance service provides very low rates to many parts of the world. Rates vary depending on location of destination number and which phone you’re dialing from, but many countries can be reached for between 3 and 4 cents per minute.

Family Usage

Because Packetel’s long distance service is used via a local access number, it can be shared among everyone in your family. Family members can use the service from any phone, anywhere, whenever they like.
