NTT, African Carrier Partner on CloudWAN

An NTT (News - Alert)-heavy threesome has come together to launch an offering called CloudWAN that combines network functions virtualization with software-defined wide area network technology.


The partners include Silicon Valley innovation center NTT Innovation Institute Inc., Japanese communications provider NTT PC Communications, and pan African telecommunication service provider Internet Solutions (News - Alert).

NTT PC Communications plans to launched CloudWAN on June 6. Internet Solutions of South Africa expects to go live with CloudWAN starting on June 8.

CloudWAN provides a way to link enterprise customers’ on-premises assets as well as private and public clouds into a seamless virtual network. It enables them to virtualize a service plane so they can more easily deploy third-party virtualized network functions like firewall and WAN acceleration. And it allows them to support business transformation by instantly deploying applications and services as needed.

"With CloudWAN, NTT Group delivers one-stop productive operation management for the entire ICT environment," said Hiromichi Shinohara, Senior Executive Vice President and CTO for NTT. "By combining NTT i3's Silicon Valley-based R&D with the strengths and features of each NTT Group company, I believe we are a stronger company that significantly contributes to the business value of a wide variety of customers."

In other recently SD-WAN news, Silver Peak (News - Alert) today announced that South Korean service provider Hyundai HCN will be offering a managed SD-WAN service based on its technology.

“We are delighted to serve as a foundational partner with Hyundai HCN as they establish a new business practice focused on enterprises and service providers across South Korea and the APAC region,” said Shayne Stubbs, vice president service provider and cloud, Silver Peak. “Having Weston-Comstor (News - Alert) at the ready to provide turnkey fulfillment and integration services will enable joint enterprise customers to bring up new managed SD-WAN services with the ease, efficiency and effectiveness they require to drive their businesses forward.”
