How Hybrid WAN Gets a Boost from SD-WAN

Recently, we got a great look at how hybrid wide area networking (WAN) systems can get a boost from software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) systems, thanks to a new partnership between Global Capacity (News - Alert) and VeloCloud Networks. Though it would be easy to think the two are separate and thus incompatible, that's not the case, and this new move shows us just what these two technologies can do together.

Global Capacity is already well known in the field as a provider of connectivity as a service options, and by getting together with VeloCloud in a new partnership, Global Capacity could bring in a set of new managed SD-WAN options. Part of a larger strategy at Global Capacity, VeloCloud's SD-WAN offerings will help be part of a larger enterprise networking portfolio that offers a full line of software-defined operations.

These extra options will be valuable, as these provide a great way to better keep abreast of the issues that can crop up in a hybrid WAN operation. With an array of problems ranging from tough times in load sharing to a lack of application visibility, there are plenty of reasons for hybrid WAN users to seek out some relief. Bringing in VeloCloud, meanwhile, may be a big help on this front.

With VeloCloud in place, reports note, the Global Capacity One Marketplace gets access to an even wider slate of provider-neutral choices in hybrid WAN elements. These extra choices go that much farther toward giving companies access to the tools that best fit needs on the ground, including things like having the ability to issue priority to incoming and outgoing traffic automatically.

This helps ensure a better user experience, as was the case with traffic shaping systems, we've seen how some traffic can wait to go out, and by waiting, it doesn't impact the user experience much. Plus, by better making room for traffic that can't wait as well, the overall flow of traffic improves, and those things that must be handled urgently are handled more urgently. With the VeloCloud Cloud-Delivered SD-WAN architecture now in place, the whole system offers a potentially better capacity than it had previously offered.

Measures like these are commonly necessary in order to fend off the competition, and given the overall growth trajectory of the hybrid WAN market, Global Capacity needed a way to help distinguish itself. Bringing in VeloCloud's capabilities should go a long way on that front, and help Global Capacity stay out in front of the array of competitors that's growing to match the market.

The new combination of VeloCloud and Global Capacity should be a worthwhile one, and deliver new value not only for the duo, but also for its customer base.
