The world is a much smaller place today than it was 20 years ago. Rotary telephones and traditional fax have given way to unified communications systems, and off-site hosted PBX exchanges. As technology has evolved, so has its functionality. An enterprise today can customize its communications solution to be tailor-made, and still be scalable enough to adjust and grow with a company’s goals and needs.
With the growing trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), businesses are seeing questions and issues pop up that are uncharted territory, literally. And, as the nature of business shifts toward an upwardly mobile workforce, it is intriguing to see how this obstacle is navigated.
A recent Alcatel-Lucent whitepaper illuminates some of the hurdles businesses today must overcome as well as some of the trends affecting enterprise communications. The trend I am most concerned with is mobility: If I am not in the office, what level of productivity can I have from my tablet or smartphone? If this question cannot be answered then some red flags should be raised as the sirens go off in your head.
One of the easiest ways to improve productivity, employee satisfaction and profitability, is to ensure your network is mobile friendly. According to the Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) study, 91 percent of businesses allow some employees to work remotely. Think about the new challenges that exist today. BYOD has employees bringing personal devices and expect to easily connect to the company connections, partner that with the notion that teams are using a plethora of devices to increase productivity and last, but certainly not least, these additional devices and functionalities cause a much greater strain on a company’s network.
A reliable and experienced hosted PBX provider can offer system maintenance, anytime/anywhere connectivity and one less thing to worry about. With a lower cost, no storage space needed and the ease of virtual plug-and-play functionality let them worry about the details of your network so that you can focus on the business of business.
It is integral to keep collaboration and communication as priority number one for any enterprise today, without there would be no customers to offer any type of journey. The days of sitting at your desk from 9-5 are long gone, and people expect to do business at the time and location of their choosing. If your business isn’t setup for today’s mobility, then prepare to suffer the consequences of missed opportunities and a poor bottom line.
