New Global Telecom Plays Key Role in Award-Winning Case Study by BroadSoft

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

A recent case study by VoIP application software maker BroadSoft, Inc. is the winner of a “Best Practices” award in Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing’s  (CTAM) Business Services Case Study Competition.

The case study, which won in the Industry Supplier category of the competition, describes how BroadSoft helped 5,500 end-users from 245 different businesses migrate from Level 3’s wholesale VoIP service to New Global Telecom’s BroadWorks-based 6DegreesIP product suite.

The migration occurred in response to Level 3’s January, 2005, announcement that it no longer would offer (3)Tone hosted PBX business service, BroadSoft said in a press release.

BroadSoft said that more than 60 percent of (3)Tone customers chose the New Global Telecom/BroadWorks solution for its feature-rich functionality and carrier-class back office capability.

On average, BroadSoft said, each end-to-end migration took 30 minutes and resulted in a mean downtime of 2-3 minutes, with transition activity hidden from users.

“The transition of VoIP services from one wholesaler to another necessitated a rapid response, a flawless plan and smooth execution to assure continuous VoIP service to thousands of users,” BroadSoft’s CEO, Michael Tessler, said in the press release. “We are happy to have had the opportunity to share the story so that others might benefit from the experience.”

CTAM President and CEO Char Beales commented: “As the cable industry gains market share in VoIP deployment, it’s important to share learnings related to the rollout of voice in the business sector. BroadSoft's case study further validates VoIP opportunities for MSOs.”
