JD.com Granted One of First Licenses in China to Resell Mobile Telecom Services

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has awarded JD.com one of the first licenses in China to resell mobile telecom services.

JD.com is a B2C e-commerce company in China. The company strives to offer consumers the best online shopping experience and it provides a comprehensive service platform for its business partners and a huge selection of high quality products, convenient services and affordable prices for its consumers.

As of November 2013, JD.com has more than 140 million registered users and tens of thousands of suppliers across China. JD.com offers more than 10 million SKUs across 13 categories of products. On average, JD.com receives 200 million daily visitors and 1 million purchase orders.

JD.com has 6 major fulfillment centers and 75 warehouses in 31 cities, as well as more than 1,400 delivery stations and more than 300 pickup stations, covering 1,232 districts and counties nationwide.

"The combination of being China's biggest seller of mobile phones and our deep existing relationships with the country's three major telecom companies makes this move into core mobile communications services a logical next step,” said Guoqing Zhao, vice chairman, JD.com, in a statement.

Zhao said that the largely 23-45 year-old make up of JD.com's 140 million registered users, which closely matches the biggest growth segment of the mobile phone market, will help the company achieve its goal of becoming China's fourth largest mobile carrier within five years.

“JD.com will use the trusted relationship we have with our customers to offer a full range of voice and data plans, and will leverage our outstanding technology resources to provide additional services that are currently in development,” said Zhao.

He said that the company believes that JD.com's entry into the mobile carrier market will promote industry development, technological innovation and greater choice for Chinese consumers.

“The additional customers that these new services will bring to JD.com will also provide a significant boost to our already large and rapidly growing user base,” said Zhao.
