GGL Communications has announced the availability of its product PacketScan software to monitor live IP, VoIP, and IP based video traffic.

GGL provides PC-based test, analysis and simulation products and consulting services to the global telecommunications industry. The company’s newly released tool boasts several features such as monitoring QoS (quality of service) on voice and video calls.

PacketScan software also segregates, captures, and collects statistics on VoIP calls (H323, SIP, MEGACO, MGCP, T.38, and others); permits analysis of adherence to protocol standards for the system under test or observation; and provides graphical presentation of analysis, including ladder diagrams of protocols.

Karthik Ramalingam, senior manager of the company notes that the PacketScan software tool can monitor hundreds of calls in real-time including detailed analysis of selected voice band streams.

The tool is ideal to test IP phones, Gateways, IP Routers and Switches, and Proxies. PacketScan can easily collect vital statistics about calls for theoretically infinite time and its ability to capture data is limited only by the hard disk capacity of the PC.

PacketScan can work with PacketScanWEB, a central monitoring system that gives a comprehensive view of network performance.

Featuring rich graphics, ladder diagrams and CDRs (Call Detail Records), the tool allows users to listen/record audio and video data of a session in real-time.

Also, it enables users to perform power, frequency, spectral, tone and digit analysis, and video analysis with ease and precision.

“The captured VoIP calls can play-back video using 3rd party VLC Viewer application,” said Ramalingam.

“ The application is capable of displaying Video Statistics such as Source (News - Alert)/Destination Video Channels, Media Type, SSRC, Total Packet Counts, Missing Packets, Duplicate Packets and Out of sequence Packets, Average Delay/Gap, Video Frame Count, Frame rate, Media Delivery Index (MDI- (Delay Factor: Media Loss Rate)), and Average MDI for each video session.”

GL Communications (News - Alert) was in news last month to convey the availability of its product GLInsight, an expert system for decoding and analysis of Fax and Modem communications over PSTN or IP Networks.
