Hosted Softwitch: Flexible and Versatile VoIP with iTelBilling

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

If you’re in the Internet telephony business, nobody has to tell you how competitive it is. Internet telephony service providers know what competition is, and are looking for a comprehensive business tool to serve as “the most secure business tool for ITSPs.”

That’s the assessment of REVE Systems, which is offering iTelBilling as software to meet that need -- to help ITSPs “grow and prosper in this challenging environment by managing their business efficiently.”

Two good adjectives to describe the hosted softswitch solution are “versatile” and “flexible.” REVE Systems officials explain that iTelBilling supports all models of Internet telephony business, such as retail origination, which means calls from calling cards, call shops, devices and PC or mobile dialers – and can also handle wholesale origination and termination -- there you have it, versatile and flexible. Oh, and iTelBilling also provides support to Interactive Voice Response in integration with the Switch and ITelBilling can support both prepaid and postpaid business models.

This is important to operators for maintaining large number of billing plans for their customers. The product also allows easy recharging of prepaid accounts and PINs.

It comes with a secured billing interface, a key point when security is a major consideration for calling customers. To allay fears, iTelBilling also prevents unauthorized access to the system by providing a secured platform to operators, secured in both the access to call control and the users' access to the system. It goes beyond simply requiring password authentication, and lets operators specify the IP or a list of IPs which are allowed access to the system.

The monitoring and reporting tools are considered key selling points of iTelBilling as well. Using them, service providers can monitor profitability of routes and gateways in real time and generate reports by customer, destination or region. No doubt you can see how such a comprehensive monitoring tool could help an ITSP identify the most profitable routes and take business decisions quickly.
