Bharti Airtel, Servion and Cisco Announced Hosted Contact Center Project

June 23, 2010
Dow Jones is reporting that a consortium of India's Bharti Airtel, Servion Global Solutions and Cisco Systems (News - Alert) will "offer hosted contact center services in India, the three companies said in a joint statement Thursday."
The consortium evidently aims to acquire 5,000 ports or seats in the first year of operations, according to a statement issued by the three new joint partners.
The Indian hosted contact center services market is worth $50 million, according to the statement. Seems a bit of a lowball number to us, but hey.
Such services, Dow Jones noted, "offer access to technology without having to buy software licenses, hardware, building infrastructure, and without dedicating information technology resources to implement, maintain and upgrade technologies. That leads to cost savings and flexibility for companies."
In May TMC's (News - Alert) Raju Shanbhag reported that Bharti Airtel (News - Alert) partnered with Consona to launch a new version of the popular desktop portal, NetXpert: "This will available to all the Bharti Airtel (News - Alert) broadband subscribers, the company announced in a press release."
NetXpert is India's first automated broadband self-care technology offering, Shanbhag said: "It's virtual service center at customer's desktop and is available free to all Airtel broadband customers. Its advanced connectivity check feature automatically detects and fixes internet connection related issues. It also carries out various tests and lets customers know their results."
In April Shanbhag reported that, to offer improved voice quality and faster data access to its customers, "Bharti Airtel has selected Ericsson for a $1.3 billion network upgrade."
Prior to this, in July 2007, Airtel had awarded Ericsson (News - Alert) an estimated $2 billion expansion contract, including expansion of its GSM/EDGE network and providing capacity management. With that deal, Airtel could expand its reach into rural areas, Shanbhag wrote.
