Ibex Global Adds 250 Jobs to its Call Centers in West Virginia

The major domestic stock indexes including the DJ Industrial Average, NASDAQ Composite, NYSE Composite,  Russell 2000, S&P 500 and the S&P MidCap 400 all experienced gains from the high teens all the way to the low thirties in 2013. The U.S. economy is picking up steam and most analysts are bullish on 2014. The growth is being driven by improvement across the board including the return of manufacturing. As more companies build their manufacturing base in the U.S., other sectors are also making domestic investments. The call center industry, which is famous for its offshoring, has been increasing its domestic presence by opening more new centers and increasing the number of employees in its existing ones.

Ibex Global, an onshore, near shore and offshore solution provider in five countries, with 18 call centers employing more than 9000 customer service professionals, is increasing its onshore presence by hiring an additional 250 employees in Charleston, WVa. The company already operates centers in Elkins and Beckley in the state. To encourage applicants to join, Ibex is offering a $500 hiring bonus until Feb. 28 for the customer service representatives.

The number of companies reshoring in the call center industry is responsible for adding 100,000 jobs to the U.S. economy in the past three years, with a five percent increase in new hires in the past year.

The move is not being driven out of loyalty to country and patriotism, but simple economics. In the past several years the pay in developing countries has been increasing, and the savings companies are experiencing are not as big. Additionally customers are increasingly voicing their preference about hearing native English speakers when they call a center. This and new sets of technologies that makes it possible to save money for domestic operations is driving call centers to increase their presence here.

The industry as whole is rebranding itself by making call center employment a career option for many people. Although in the past call centers had one of the highest attrition rates in any industry, more people are staying longer at their jobs. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the average weekly pay for call center workers is $550 which is more than twice the minimum wage. The industry is also diversifying by offering highly specialized services with nurses, pharmacists, insurance agents, certified mechanics and others. These call center operator have a much higher earning potential, with some bringing in six figure incomes.
