MS LifeLine Continues To Offer Multiple Sclerosis-Affected Call Center Resources

MS LifeLines, sponsored by EMD Serono, Inc. and Pfizer Inc., has made it its mission to offer support to anyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). The educational support service has created a call center that is committed to helping community members get access to resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

MS is a potentially debilitating disease where the immune system eats away at the protective sheath that covers your body’s nerves. This damage then in turn disrupts your body’s communication with the brain resulting in the deterioration of the nerves themselves. What does this mean? It means you could ultimately become paralyzed, unable to move your muscles on your own to complete simple tasks. Currently, there is no cure for the disease. To help cope, MS Lifelines has been providing a place for families to go to get more information.

Kathy H., a caregiver and MS LifeLines Ambassador, suggests MS LifeLines as a resource for patients and caregivers living with MS, especially those who don’t have family nearby. “Their website has great information, which is especially helpful for people who don’t have access to support groups or who may not be ready to go to a support group meeting,” said Kathy.

The call center allows patients to enroll; gaining access to support specialists, nurses, and other specialists that can help provide education, training, financial assistance, and other resources to help people and family members dealing with the disease.

With no cure, it’s no surprise that the Datamonitor Healthcare released a report saying it expects the MS market in the United States, Japan, and five other major European markets to expand significantly over the next couple of years. According to the healthcare analysts from Datamonitor, the market could peak as high as $18.3 billion by 2018.

This increase is due largely to the oral therapies and other medical treatments that are designed to help slow down the effects of MS. With no cure currently on the market, the MS growth rate will continue to increase as much as 20 percent by 2021. As demand for treatment is on the rise, MS LifeLines might be families’ only resource to find help and become educated on MS.
