Sennheiser Intros HD 800

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Sennheiser has announced the release of an all new headphone, the HD 800, which, the company describes as a new standard in premium headphones that offers "extraordinarily brilliant sound image and stunning spatiality."

The headphones are designed to provide increased performance and clearer, more crisp sound images.

The headphones feature an open-back design and an ear cup designed to allow for comfort and to ensure quality sound is delivered in high quality to users.

The new HD 800 headphones also include a new type of transducer technology in a ring design that ensures headphone frequencies sound pure.

"Sennheiser's patented ring design for the diaphragm minimizes the distortion of the sound image, even with a transducer as large as 56 mm," explained Axel Grell, acoustics developer at Sennheiser.

Boasting a frequency response of 6 to 51,000 Hertz, the transducer measures at 56mm and according to the company is, "the largest that can currently be found in a dynamic headphone." With it, distortions in sound reproduction are minimized and instead sound has "brilliant trebles, precise bass and exceptionally clear sound image."

To provide users with an exceptional listening experience, it's important to achieve a listening experience that makes it seem as though the listener is sitting in a concert hall or listening to a live jazz session when they have the headphones on, the company said. The HD 800 captures this spatial extension and delivers crisp sounds to the listener's ears for a truly exceptional listening experience.

Also, improved comfort – especially for those who like to listen to music for longer periods of time - is provided with the headphones thanks to circumaural ear cups that fit comfortably around the ears and don’t put a lot of aggressive lateral pressure on them.

"We allowed ourselves a lot of time to perfect the HD 800," said Maurice Quarré, Product Manager Home Audio at Sennheiser. "Not only to develop the technical intricacies but also to select the finest materials to make it perfect in every detail."
