Video Conferencing Goes Mainstream- Market Set to Soar
By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor
Video conferencing has taken on a particularly significant meaning today in a world where broadband internet connections are common, and communications that are more effective and efficient than ever, are on the rise.
According to a report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc., the market for video conferencing is expected to reach $11.9 Billion by 2010.
The report, "Video Conferencing: A Global Strategic Business Report" outlined in a recent TMCnet article, notes the US market, which is the largest worldwide, is worth an estimated $4 billion on 2007. Following just behind is the market is Europe and then Asia.
A key element in the bolstered growth is lowered costs, improved picture quality, clearer audio, reduced delays and uninterrupted connections.
Video conferencing was once seen as a tool that ate up bandwidth, was slow, grainy, choppy, not very useful.
Now however, with advancements, users are able to experience a video conference session that is admirable and efficient.
Today's videoconferencing is not just more available and affordable, it has also redefined communications with its ability to offer real-time, face-to-face conversations with others located in various different locations.
Taking this to the next level is the increased availability of fiber networks and HDTV's which has allowed HD Videoconferencing to emerge.
Comm3's LifeSize Room and LifeSize Team HD Videoconferencing solutions for example, enable customers to communicate to remote offices, customers and vendors with a unique visual and audio impact.
Commenting on the reports findings, Troy Cryer, CEO of Comm3 told TMCnet,
“Based upon our success this year, we have seen the demand for video grow at an unbelievable rate. Unfortunately the past two decades of video conferencing has been limited by the lack of bandwidth and monitor resolution. We are very excited how businesses are finally able to benefit from video communications. With the introduction of HD (High Definition), video communications now can deliver the original promise of video conferencing--“live face-to-face communications”.
“Comm3 is finding that any business with multiple locations is now a candidate for this product. In fact, 30 percent of the growth in our sales comes from businesses with absolutely no video experience. Since the price of the technology has come down and the ease of installation and operation has been designed to be simple, companies or individuals looking to communicate more effectively should look at this product and experience a live demonstration.”
"The best news about LifeSize is their value proposition…the LifeSize Team system at $7,999 costs less than half of our closest competitor’s product. The ability to video conference live at 1280x720 resolution enables our customers to communicate across the internet or private WANS (Wide Area Networks) and practically eliminate geographic distances,” Cryer also told TMCnet.
