Los Angeles-based content distribution company Writers' Group Film and its subsidiary Amiga Games (AGI) have announced today that Google has approved AGI to publish its gaming titles via the Google Play Android (News - Alert) marketplace.
“Android devices make up nearly 75 percent of the mobile market, and Google Play is the king of Android app stores with over 50 billion downloads,” said Eric Mitchell, CEO at Writers' Group Film Corp.
There are millions of apps, games, songs, and videos on Google (News - Alert) Play, the digital application distribution platform for Android, an open source mobile platform engineered by Google. It allows users to download books, music, movies, devices, magazines, television programs and applications published via Google as part of an online electronic store.
Google Play is available in over 130 countries, with games accounting for 66 percent of its revenue, according to industry reports. Also, more than 150 million Android devices were sold in the first quarter of 2013; and nearly 20 sold every second.
“Android is the fastest growing platform on the planet and we're excited to be in Google's marketplace,” Mitchell said. He expects that these latest developments will enable the company to further strengthen its competitive advantage in the gaming marketplace.
“AGI's classic titles focus on delivering a quality gaming experience for the consumer, so I am very optimistic about our new distribution arrangements."
Amiga Games announced its acquisition by Writers’ Group Film, earlier this month. It is a video videogame publisher of classic games for a wide range of smartphones and mobile devices.
AGI intends to release its titles to Google Play for the 2013 winter holiday season.
Recently, AGI announced that as part of a Software and Trademark License Agreement with Amiga, it will be distributing Amiga titles through BlackBerry (News - Alert) World for the BlackBerry Q10 and Z10 smartphones and PlayBook tablet.
