Earlier this week, Google (News - Alert) officially revealed via a notification on its blog that Google Drive, its cloud-storage service, will be integrated with its e-mail service, Gmail. This was done in order to clear the rumors that have been out for weeks as well as various leaks that have been seen on an Android (News - Alert) developer’s Google+ Hangout presentation.
The unification of Google Docs, sharing documents with co-workers and the accessibility of the files in any places is all made possible with the Google Drive service. Its enhanced features are suitable not only to business people, but to any individual.
From a Google Drive account, anyone can attach a file (like PDF, pictures, videos) of up to 10GB size, and like any other social networking sites, a notification will be provided to the sender once the recipient comments on the shared files. Microsoft (News - Alert) through Outlook and SkyDrive also has these features.
Moreover, with the Google Drive service, smart tagging is now available. Allowing the service to identify subject in scanned records, Optical Character Recognition technology is one of the best features Google Drive offers.
Regardless of if the software required has been installed, Google Drive allows users to open of up to 30 types of files in the browser. Different types of files such as PDFs, Illustrator and Photoshop pictures, and HD format videos are also supported.
The company provides 5 GB of cloud storage free of charge, and on a monthly basis, different storage tiers are also available to all users.
Costing $2.49 a month to upgrade the service to 25 GB, $4.99 for 100 GB, and the maximum storage of 1 TB at $49.99 a month, it is a fact that these great storage options are available at a reasonable price. An automatic expansion of the storage to a user’s Gmail account to 25 GB is possible when a user upgrades to a paid account.
