ASIC, which is formally known as an Application Specific Integrated Circuit, is a customized integrated circuit. It is increasingly being shown that ASIC network application analytics provide improved performance.
John Gonzalez, Southern Region sales manager for Extreme Networks (News - Alert), which uses ASIC tech, said in a recent article for CSO, that the technology will help with mission critical networks and user engagement, and ensures mobile and social-user experience.
The technology integrates with network data, and can capture the data. It aggregates, analyzes, correlates, and characterizes the data, the article said; then it provides reports which explain why systems and users perform the way they do. That can help improve efficiency, as well as the overall user experience, Gonzalez noted, and he then listed some ways organizations can benefit, including the fact that users have better experiences, organizations will better understand user engagement, application performance is optimized, and there is protection against malicious or unauthorized system use.
U.S. professional football provides an example. The technology was chosen as the official Wi-Fi analytics solution for the National Football League (NFL). It is used in four NFL stadiums, and provided the Wi-Fi analytics at Super Bowl XLVIII.
“We want to deliver the most immersive and connected experience for our fans at the stadium and the new ASCIC-based solution can help enhance the fan experience through its advanced analytics capabilities,” Michelle McKenna-Doyle, CIO of the NFL, said in a statement appearing on CSO. “In delivering insight on user application preference and usage, our teams are able to best use Wi-Fi technology to deliver an exceptional game-day experience.”
The new tech uses the network to improve interactions with end-users, improves engagement and improves system efficiency. That means organizations can make better decisions, as well.
“With the explosion of enterprise mobility, social and collaborative applications, network infrastructure is now viewed as an enterprise IT asset and a key contributor to optimizing business applications and strategic intelligence,” Rohit Mehra, vice president, network infrastructure at IDC (News - Alert), said in the statement. “Such solutions are unique in terms of providing rich application analytics integrated within a network management platform, so enterprise IT is enabled with deep visibility and control of data, applications and users, for better business decisions, easily and efficiently.”
