Continuity Planning 101 - A Continuing Educational Series: Skydiving Without a Parachute
5/22/2012…  Ever notice that when you are looking out of an airplane window the clouds appear as firm as packed snow on a ski slope? In reality these virtual solids only provide the illusion of solidity. Certainly a skydiver would not actually expect to land on the top of a cloud when making a jump.

FoIP in the Cloud with etherFAX
5/16/2012…  With the way technology has been evolving more toward a ubiquitous experience thanks to the cloud, traditional methods of sending faxes are slowly dying out. HelloFax's recent venture into the world of Google was a pretty big step forward for digitizing the fax market, but a lot of others are developing similar ideas too - like etherFAX, for instance.
Balancing Traditional and State-of-the-Art Communications Skills
5/14/2012…  Fax-over-IP (FoIP) has received a lot of attention as a critical component of a global messaging solution which is why FaxCore helped pioneer this technology early in the century. Certainly the speed and convenience of today's messaging and video conferencing technologies has also provided senior executives with a great set of management tools for "remote global meetings." Theoretically, this should lead to reduced travel for management but that is not necessarily so. These same tools have also increased the available business opportunities and growth for companies seeking to expand their global operations. Some things change and some things will always remain the same.
FaxCore and Sharp Continue to Build OSA Faxing Tools
4/25/2012…  Sharp Documents Solutions Company of America (SDSCA) first unveiled its Sharp Open Systems Architecture (Sharp OSA) at the AIIM ON DEMAND conference in May of 2006 and FaxCore was there. FaxCore was also one of the first companies to sign on to the Sharp OSA Partner Program and receive validation for its FaxCore Connector for Sharp OSA enabled MFPs. As the relationship evolved, FaxCore developed several traditional and Fax-over-IP (FoIP) product bundles and programs specifically designed for its Sharp resellers to easily market FaxCore and OSA-enabled MFP solutions. The partnership with Sharp continues today with FaxCore's support of the latest version of Sharp's OSA v4.0.

Initially, VoIP was adopted by larger organizations or the traditional "first adopters" then moved to the small-medium-sized business (SMB) segment. Many industry experts are reporting that they're seeing a greater adoption of fax-over-IP in the SMB market.

FoIP: Internet Makes Faxing Easier, Fosters Legal Issues of Digital Signatures
4/3/2012…  Signed documents have always been able to legally defend its literature because of the nature of the document - it's tangible. It therefore becomes necessary to reevaluate what it means for official materials to possess a signature when they're on a screen. Digital signatures faxed over the Internet (FoIP) emulate written John Hancocks as best they can, but their legal connotations don't translate as smoothly.
FoIP: Electronic Documents - Making Reality out of Virtual
3/23/2012…  Over that past weeks, part I and part II of this series reviewed several topics related to virtual reality and virtual solutions. Now may be a good time, however, to define - or redefine as it were - virtual reality. "In philosophy, reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined." (Wikipedia)
Paperless or Papered Offices - What's the Point?
3/14/2012…  Virtual reality is a term the general public likely associates with movies like Avatar, which blend real humans with imaginary ones and computer-generated graphics, or with alternate worlds where we, as humans, can interact with other humans through avatars. In other words, it combines the human with a representation that behaves as a human. Likewise, a virtual network is a mix of servers, combining real, physical servers with virtual servers. The virtual servers must exist on one more physical servers, so pure virtual is not really possible.

Paperless or Papered Offices; What's the Point?
3/6/2012…  Green has become the favorite color for many politicians recently. It is great for them to be seen as defenders of wildlife and the environment. Preserving trees is part of the banter, so the Paperless Office phrase surfaces regularly. The term "Paperless Office" has been around for a long time and gained momentum during the 1970's. In 1975, a Business Week article predicted that advances in office automation would make paper redundant. The introduction of the PC pushed the concept further along. However, the term has lost its luster and there are very few paperless offices out there.

A Brand New World: FoIP and the Global Economy
12/23/2011…  The Global Economy has been a hot topic in recent years. Of course, the Global Economy is not new and went into full swing shortly after the "discovery of the new world" by Christopher Columbus (aka Cristoforo Colombo, Cristobal Colon or any of the other names he used). The discoveries made in the new world transformed (or distorted as some would say) the global economy. Suddenly maize and potatoes were being grown in Europe and Asia. Eurasian diseases decimated the peoples of North and South America, allowing the Europeans to transform the environment to a European model.

FoIP and the Paperless Office
11/17/2011…  The term "paperless office" has been circulating for decades ever since we realized just how many trees go into the waste baskets near our desks each day. This began long before the term "Green" was so closely associated with the term paperless office. Of course, Green is now associated with reducing emissions, conserving energy and many other environmental factors that go well beyond the paperless office.

Actually, the industry offers lots of choices including but not restricted to: email to fax; fax to email; fully hosted fax servers; managed fax services; BC/DR failover services and many other choices. Each of the options offers different cost-benefit ratios and features.

Explaining FoIP Challenges: Achieving Cost Savings with Fax Technology
12/17/2009…  Editor's Note: When it comes to fax over IP, or FoIP, most users give little thought about the technology behind the service. While it may seem easy to deploy, there are a number of intricacies running behind the scenes. As noted in Part I of TMCnet's FoIP series, Max Schroeder, senior vice president of FaxCore, a Denver-based fax server application provider, showcased legacy technologies, such as fax boards and fax machines. In the next installment, Schroeder talks about why customers are demanding the latest in fax technology. Part II follows below.
Explaining FoIP Challenges: Fax Boards and Fax Machines
12/10/2009…  To most people, fax is an easy technology. Users simply scan in a document, select a number or destination and hit the send button. That doesn’t seem too involved. For those who want to take it a step further, users can deploy the print function from applications like Microsoft Word and select a fax printer like FaxCore, a Denver-based fax server application provider and send a fax from their desktop. Another easy process. But in reality, there are a number of things taking place behind the scenes, proving that the innovative technology isn’t so simplistic.
Using a FoIP Solution to Save Money
11/20/2009…  It's not easier to make a change. The notion of complacency can impact many things, especially when it comes to the bottom line. But in a down economy, many companies are looking to save costs by not replacing their fax solutions. Even some fax over IP, or FoIP equipment may be outdated. Bert Lance, the director of the office of management and budget for former President Jimmy Carter, became famous for the adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." While the statement generally means if a system works, no improvements are necessary. But when it comes to fax technology, Max Schroeder, senior vice president of FaxCore, a Denver-based fax server application provider, disagrees.
Bringing FoIP Technology into the 21st Century
10/20/2009…  While e-mail these days appears to be the preferred method of communication among many businesses, fax is still prevalent. While technology has help propel traditional fax server applications from their 1990s roots, many companies are behind the times when it comes to upgrading their fax services. It's like owning and running a 1995 Chevy that never had a tune-up, which is both inefficient and expensive to maintain.
