ITEXPO Session to Underscore Importance of FoIP Today

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Might as well tackle this one head on: Is faxing dead?

One way of answering that is to note that an easy Google (News - Alert) search turned up an article wondering if faxing had any future -- in 2006.

Having to repeat the question for years on end if something is going to survive or not is probably the answer to its own question.

'A recent Gallup/Pitney Bowes poll of Fortune 500 companies discovered that faxing is still the No. 1 method for sending and receiving official international messages that must be signed for, at an average cost of $15 million per year,' the 2006 article found, adding that yes, of course e-mail is the most common form of business communication, but 'digitally signed PDF documents are increasing in popularity since the digital signature is deemed as a legal entity in most countries.'

And here in 2010, fax is still a part of unified communications. 'Unified communications,' of course, has about as many definitions as there are vendors, but it's all about multiple forms of communication on multiple devices.

Where does faxing fit in?

'Whether a matter of regulation or record-keeping, or convenience, or simply habit, there are many businesses that still rely heavily on fax communications in their daily business operations,' TMC (News - Alert) said in describing an upcoming fax session at TMC’s ITEXPO East 2010. 'As such, those businesses require a solution that will allow them to integrate fax capabilities into their UC platforms.'

To fill that need, TMC will be hosting a session, called “Integrating Fax into Your Enterprise UC Experience.” Max Schroeder (News - Alert), senior vice president of FaxCore, will be part of the panel.

Schroeder recently told TMC's Amy Tierney that 'for markets like health care, financial services, insurance and legal services fax is indispensable due to regulatory and legal constrictions. So why not capitalize on 21st century technology to ensure that your organization is in compliance with a cost effective solution?'

The ITEXPO (News - Alert) session will explain not only why fax remains an important part of a true UC deployment, how fax can be better integrated into IP systems, and why fax isn’t going away.

To find out more about FaxCore (News - Alert), visit the company at ITEXPO East 2010. Schedule for Jan. 20 to 22 in Miami, ITEXPO is the world’s premier IP communications event. Visit FaxCore in booth #621. Don’t wait. Register now.
