Online Fax Offers Distinct Advantages over Traditional Fax Machines

By Carlos Olivera, TMCnet Content Producer

Different methods of sending and receiving information have come a long way from pigeon carriers. For a while faxes where the standard for delivering information, but fax over internet protocol (FoIP) is starting to become the norm because of the advantages and cost savings it offers.

Employing FoIP or online fax is more cost effective than traditional fax machines because it eliminates the need of an extra phone line. The documents are transferred through e-mails instead a telephone lines, so all appropriate charges with be included on the Internet bill. Delivering the documents straight to an e-mail account will strengthen security because it is directly delivered to the intended person, instead of sitting in a fax tray machine in a crowded office.

Businesses will also be doing the environment a favor by switching over to FoIP by not having to buy as much paper allowing for more trees to live longer. A small business can spend up to a few thousand dollars a year on paper and toner supplies, not only will money be saved by only having to print pages that you need, but the environment will be happier as well.

The communication process through fax over IP is far more effective than the traditional old ways. The time from when the document it sent, to when it is received is quicker and more effective because the documents themselves are more accurately duplicated. The file is automatically converted into a PDF file before it’s sent, making the transfer smoother.

FoIP will also increase mobility and employee productivity because of the ability to send or receive a fax from a remote location. Employees can send a fax anywhere there is an Internet connection instead of having to go into the office or even worse, search around until they find a store or business with a fax machine.

This was never more evident than after the unfortunate destruction of Hurricane Sandy in October. Sandy hit the east coast with tremendous force, destroying homes and causing over a billion dollars worth of damage, but not even a storm can stop one of the most important days in American history, Election Day.

New Jersey implemented an electronic ballot where residents were able to download their ballot, and either fax it or e-mail it in to their local county clerk to cast their votes. This voting was also available to first responders of the storm for the efforts of all the help they provided displaced victims.
