This year’s ITEXPO (News - Alert) and the collocated events brought a lot of new faces to the L.A. convention center, but there were many who have been presenting at the show for most of its history. One of those companies is Faxcore. The Senior VP of the company and ITEXPO session moderator Max Schroeder sat down with TMC (News - Alert) this past week to give insight into how the world of FOIP is evolving and how his company is leading the way.

 Faxcore has been a participant for the last 18 events and Schroeder said “it has a good mix of end-users resellers and service providers all of which are our target audience.”

Faxcore is a provider of fax server applications designed to work in conjunction with existing technologies and provide seamless integration with fax machines and computers. Schroerder emphasized that other technologies industries tend to act as a barometer for how fax is transmitted. “when phones were analog, fax used analog cards, when they became digital, digital cards, and now that it’s fax over IP our company has standardized Dialogic Brooktrout  SR140, and fax over IP drivers.”

Faxcore is staying current with other communication technology like Microsoft (News - Alert) OCS, Microsoft unified messaging as well.  It has also worked tireless to support products from Avaya, Cisco and other major communications companies adopting new FoIP technologies.

Fax technology has seen a tremendous amount change since the implementation of T.38 FoIP transmission methods, but the T.38 standard is still alive and well. Being one of the projects that Schroeder worked on, he is uniquely qualified to speak about it. FaxCore (News - Alert) 2007 still makes use of this transmission process but “Implementation is the current challenge” Schroeder said.

The industry is moving away from premise based solutions into software as service and hosted management models. Fortunately the architecture at the core FaxCore 2007 and T.38 allows for remote installation and support. “So our resellers can sell the product to a company that has one or more location anywhere in the world and the product can be sold and maintained by that seller, the days of going to that customer office are numbered.” Schroeder said. Hosted solutions like this were everywhere at ITEXPO so it is not surprising that the trend has presented itself in the FoIP market.

As for the eventual extinction of fax that has been predicted many times over since the advent of Email services, Schroeder said that legal documentation and compliance issues are likely to keep it relevant for some time to come. FaxCore will continue to offer a means to integrate and streamline fax over IP technology in concurrence with emerging communications options.
