Fax Over IP Feature: How to Save Money by Purchasing a Fax Server Solution

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Trade in your old fax server

Human beings are creatures of habit. Once we put a process in place, we are reluctant to change. Unfortunately, complacency can have an adverse effect on profits. Just because a particular solution made economic sense one or two years ago, it does not mean it holds true today.

Recently, TMCnet came across an article that mentioned some technology under development was prompted by a national postal strike in the U.K. in 2007. Could a fax server be a good solution to this type of problem? Max Schroeder (News - Alert), senior vice president of FaxCore, talked about his experience in the area.

“There was a postal strike in Canada in the early 1990s and I was immediately contacted by a company in Ontario whose survival was threatened by the strike,” Schroeder told TMCnet. “The company handled financial statements, invoices and other critical material. They purchased a fax server solution and were up and running in a few days.”

What was the outcome?

“I called them at the end of the strike to see how the switch to fax has worked out,” Schroeder said. “They advised that the strike was actually a very fortuitous event. The analysis showed that faxing was much less expensive that using the postal service. Basically, a two- to three-page document only cost pennies and a mailed document could be as much as a $1 when factoring in processing postage. Plus, fax has the added benefit of providing proof of delivery. The ROI was excellent and we will not revert to using the postal service.”

If we put this into today’s perspective, phone minute costs have decreased in the past 10 to 15 years and postal costs have risen considerably, so the ROI today is much better than the previous decade. The good news is that companies don’t have to wait for a strike to implement this solution. Just go to the FaxCore site and take a look at what the product has to offer.

As TMCnet has previously reported, FaxCore (News - Alert) also has a feature rich product, so there are many added benefits besides saving on postage. Automating a company’s fax workflow processes will also decrease labor costs. And Fax over IP solutions can help.

Faxing invoices and monthly statements is also very green as many fax documents are now handled electronically and even it the documents are printed, you still use less paper than mailing via the USPS (News - Alert). FaxCore supports the latest Dialogic/Brooktrout solutions adding to the ROI by utilizing faster transmission speeds and further reducing phone charges. Implementing FaxCore as a FoIP solution in a virtual environment can further decrease energy consumption.
