Fax Over IP Feature: Is It Time to Replace Your Fax Server or Fax Solution?

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

Bert Lance, President Jimmy Carter's director of the office of management and budget, once uttered the familiar adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” That phrase is generally interpreted to mean that if a system is working, any attempts to improve it are pointless.

But Max Schroeder (News - Alert), senior vice president of FaxCore, a Denver-based fax server application provider, disagrees.

“What really is the definition of ‘ain’t broke?’” Schroeder asked.

Schroeder said that a fax system installed in 2005, 2003, or earlier would reflect the architecture and technology of the era. He said that although the company’s technology in 2006 was ahead of its competitors, the company began development of FaxCore (News - Alert) in 2007.

The goal was not to stay ahead of its competitors, but to provide customers with the latest technology in unified communications, next generation networks and third-party products like Microsoft (News - Alert) CRM and SharePoint. Producing a greener product was also a major consideration since customers are looking to be as green as possible. And a key part of that is moving to VoIP and FoIP to offer fax over IP services.

Schroeder added that the “time to change” factor has been evident in the leads and phone calls FaxCore is receiving this year. Many customers are considering FaxCore because they are also looking at ways to improve their company’s efficiencies and making a determination to migrate to FaxCore. Fortunately, many of these customers have found that FaxCore’s bundled solutions and the low cost of their annual support pays for the migration in a short time.
