FaxCore at ITEXPO: Virtualization, Business Continuity, Green Technologies Are Thriving

By Michael Dinan, TMCnet Editor

Much of what Brianna Schweitzer wrote here on her Vantage Communications-hosted blog echoes what we heard in the hours and days following last week’s Internet Telephony Conference & Expo in Miami.

TMC President Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) reported that attendance was up 15 percent at the event and – as TMC Vice President Tom Keating writes here – the show, by all accounts, bucked downward trends in the economy and bold predictions that “VoIP Is Dead.”

One aspect of the show that Schweitzer also picked up on was the number of businesses that are “reinventing what many may assume is long gone – the fax.”

“Our unofficial count showed about 14 fax companies at the show, all optimistic that this is a hot, new sector in IP communications,” Schweitzer said.

The fax may be seen as a hot sector – yet at least one company would dispute the term “new."

Officials at FaxCore Inc. – whose Fax-over-IP, or “FoIP” solutions are designed to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes, including CPE and service providers – told TMCnet during an interview that the company did its first installation three years ago in a Cisco (News - Alert) Systems Inc. call center environment.

“We are the first to deploy anywhere in the world,” the Parker, Colorado-based company’s senior vice president, Max Schroeder, told TMCnet during an interview.

FaxCore’s is the only fax solution built on the Microsoft .NET (News - Alert) platform, and it brings faxing into the electronic messaging realm, integrating the technology with VoIP and eliminating fax machines by leveraging integration with MFPs from companies such as Xerox, Fuji-Xerox, Sharp (News - Alert) and HP.

Schroeder – who ran reseller training sessions at the ITEXPO (News - Alert) – said he saw a busy show floor and meeting rooms that reaffirmed FaxCore’s strategy for resellers of focusing on cost-saving and green technologies.

“In our sessions, speakers focused on the fact that resellers need to spend more time up front in the sale, gather information from the customer, because customers are looking harder now,” Schroeder told TMCnet. “However, based on FaxCore’s business right now, there’s definite proof that you can do well in this economy. Technologies such as virtualization and business continuity do well in this market. Virtualization brings cost reduction by reducing the number of servers, thus reducing power requirements, and allows companies to implement a business continuity plan without any additional cost.”

FaxCore itself delivers cost-effective, simple implementations by leverage Web-based technology and offers the features that are required in a converged world.

“Customers are tired of legacy technologies and legacy prices,” company officials say. “FaxCore understands that VoIP and converged IP customers want simplicity and the lower costs associated with today’s new technologies.”

And for Schroeder, the ITEXPO proved to be the right venue to showcase FaxCore’s technologies.

“I did not hear a single negative comment from any exhibitor, and certainly we were very pleased, as usual,” Schroeder said. “The show had a lot of traffic. TMC has the right equation. For me, the reason we always do the TMC event is that TMC attracts buyers. Many other shows that I’ve attended but do not exhibit at seems to attract technologists, but at the ITEXPO, buyers are plentiful.”
