With the way technology has been evolving more toward a ubiquitous experience thanks to the cloud, traditional methods of sending faxes are slowly dying out. HelloFax's recent venture into the world of Google (News - Alert) was a pretty big step forward for digitizing the fax market, but a lot of others are developing similar ideas too – like etherFAX, for instance.

The company announced today that along with DPD International, it sent its popular GoldFax for Windows software into the cloud. Unlike traditional methods of communication between fax machines, etherFAX has its own proprietary technologies which allow documents to be sent over the Internet rather than PSTN networks.

EtherFAX previously announced integration with FaxCore (News - Alert), including a BC/DR option for your FaxCore server.

Ditching conventional phone line-based fax services means that customers will not only save on spending, but experience much faster connection and delivery speeds.

“etherFAX offers an innovative new approach to manage fax communications via the cloud,” said Bill Vanek, Director of Sales at GoldFax. “Integrating with etherFAX gives customers a new approach to reduce the total cost of their fax infrastructure and greatly simplifies the implementation of the solution. All that is required is an Internet connection. Also, existing customers can benefit from cloud-based fault tolerance.”

Though still sitting in many offices nationwide, clunky old fax machines are almost completely obsolete. Businesses can save a ton of cash (and office space) if they drop the machines and go with newer, cloud-based FoIP technologies like etherFAX.

There's really no good way to sync up faxed documents with conventional setups either. Users can scan the hard-copy into the system, but that just puts it on the hard drive, usually in the form of an image – unless additional software is involved. Leveraging Fax over IP, those documents are automatically syncced across the cloud – eliminating the need to scan anything at all, while using little to no hard drive space at the same time.
