TMC Awards Patton's SmartNode Session Border Controller

Technology Marketing Corporation's Unified Communications (News - Alert) Magazine has named SmartNode 5200 Enterprise Session Border Router "ESBR" from Patton a, "Product of the Year" for 2009.
A session border controller or, "SBC," is network equipment that is required for controlling the real-time session traffic at the signaling, call-control and packet layers between networks and is critical for the deployment of VoIP networks and acts as a network address translator "NAT" for the service provider.
According to John Wu, VoIP product manager at Patton (News - Alert), interop issues and security holes are problem areas in SIP trunking and SmartNode addresses both these issues.
Patton's ESBR any-to-any SIP and H.323 protocol mediation offers secure connectivity between IP-PBX and Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Service Providers.
In addition, the solution includes an advanced IP router, QOS, VoIP-VPN security, least cost call routing and IP link redundancy - to reduce the overall equipment cost.

Generally, enterprises are using VoIP for communication on the enterprise LAN. The full potential of IP communications can be realized when VoIP is taken beyond LAN application.
