Patton, a provider of business and carrier-class VoIP, network access, connectivity and video surveillance equipment, announced that it is taking orders for theCopperLink 2160series of high-speed long-range Ethernet Extenders.

 

As per the announcement, Patton’s (News - Alert) broadband extender stretches Ethernet up to 5.2 miles and achieves rates up to 45 Mbps, offering greater reliability than previously believed possible over existing copper infrastructure, said company officials.

 

Patton has been building Ethernet extenders in the United States since bringing the first Ethernet extender to market in the 1990s. Patton’s LAN-XtendModel 2111 had achieved 2.3 Mbps over a single twisted pair.

 

CopperLink 2160 delivers broadband Ethernet extension that defies traditional distance limitations at Telco carriers, office buildings, campuses, factories, ships, power plants—anywhere there are dry copper pairs, company officials said.

 

By combining two, four or eight copper wires into a single circuit, the Model 2160 series leverages the available number of twisted pairs to achieve optimum stability, rate and reach for each long-range Ethernet segment, they explained.

 

The combination of four wire pairs per segment enhances electromagnetic noise tolerance, thus Patton’s CopperLink 2160 ensures stability at the highest level attainable for each connection.

 

The 2160 series comprises three model codes, all including a built-in four-port Ethernet switch that makes it easy to connect up to four devices or LANs to the long-range circuit.

 

The CopperLink 2162, bonds up to four twisted pairs (8 wires) into a single, highly-stable Ethernet link that reaches up to 5.2 miles (8.3 kilometers) while delivering rates up to 768 kbps. The 2162 achieves rates up to 45 Mbps for connections up to 0.9 miles (1.4 kilometers), according to company sources.

 

The CopperLink 2161 utilizes two pairs (4 wires) to achieve rates up to 22.7 Mbps.

 

The CopperLink 2160 delivers rates up to 11.4 Mbps over a single twisted pair, they added.

 

“With each new model, CopperLink takes communication technology farther and faster,” Johnnie Grant, product manager, said.

 

Earlier this year, Patton announced a strategic partnership that appointed ABP as a Master Distributor for Patton’sSmartNode VoIP Gateway (News - Alert)product line in the Americas.

Patton has engaged ABP to distribute VoIP equipment to key reseller partners in conjunction with a blitz on the North American VoIP market that began in October, the company said.
