Simplify Network Management with Secure SmartNode VPN for SMEs

Configuring access router for voice function can be a headache. The different signaling, voice traffic can be running at transport layer protocols.  Some of them are running on TCP, while some others are running on UDP (News - Alert), etc. Each of them needs different NAPT translation.  The SmartNode VPN feature can be used to simplify this task. By grouping all VoIP traffics, including both voice and signaling packets into a single pipe, the router configuration task can be greatly simplified.

Using multiple VPN tunnels for different applications within a multi-branch enterprise network environment can further reduce network management complexity. The SmartNode does not have a preset limitation of VPN tunnels. In practice the SmartNode will support a minimum of 10 VPN tunnels.  In comparison, Cisco’s (News - Alert) 800 routers support 5 to 20 tunnels and Cisco 1800 routers support 20 tunnels.

One of German’s largest retail chains has successfully deployed SmartNode in 1200 retail stores.  The SmartNodes are carrying all the voice, data and fax traffic between each retail store and its headquarters.  You can check their story in article “SmartNode Delivers VoIP-over-VPN Network with Secure, Encrypted Voice for 1200-Site Retail Chain”

The SmartNode IPSec can further be used to creates private VPN tunnels ensuring secure VoIP, voice and data traffic while protecting all inter-office voice and data communications over the Internet.  The new IKE features further enhances the security and ease-of-use for Voice-over-VPNs and data VPNs. IKE is a dynamic and automatic security exchange function. By constantly changing the encryption key on a user-configurable interval, say once per hour, IKE greatly reduces the chances that there can be intercept of the traffic. In addition, IKE eases SmartNode™ deployment by making the encryption software easy to configure and administer through the elimination of manual keys. With dynamic key exchange, the network administrator doesn’t have to worry about periodically reconfiguring the SmartNodes to maintain the highest levels of security.

Security VoIP and data service also can also be used to retain important employees and help employees to better balance their carrier and family.  To find more please check the story, “Patton’s SmartNode Gateway Saves Time, Money, and a Priceless Employee!”.
