Sorrento Networks has unveiled a 10 Gigabit Optical Ethernet Transport (OET) line card that increases bandwidth capacity by factor of five and enhances ability to support additional data services.

 

 Sorrento Networks is a global provider of metro optical access solutions, offering an edge-to-regional CWDM, DWDM and ROADM (News - Alert) product portfolio to carriers and enterprises.

 

Sorrento Networks’ GigaMux optical transport products efficiently add bandwidth to clients’ networks and transport mission-critical services and applications across the network infrastructure.

 

While highlighting the features of the newly launched OET line card, the company officials said that it fuses the latest Ethernet and WDM technologies, enabling users to transport and manage multiple Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) circuits on the same line card.

The officials said that the users are able to reduce costs, increase GigE interfaces up to five times on existing systems and improve efficiencies for all Ethernet transport applications.

 

“By adding a new layer of intelligence to WDM technology, we are providing our customers with end-to-end Gigabit Ethernet and taking them to the next level in bandwidth capacity in the most cost-conscious and efficient way possible,” said Jim Nevelle, CEO, Sorrento Networks, in a statement.

 

With the help of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) service providers and enterprises are able to accommodate bandwidth growth, which continues to grow exponentially, and avoid costly new fiber build-outs.

 

Sorrento’s new OET line card offers built-in layer 2 controls that can be switched on to enable customers to control Ethernet traffic and offer more capabilities in their infrastructure.

 

Moreover, the line card allows users to set up a 10G “superstructure” of existing ring optical systems that dramatically increases bandwidth capacity and gives them the ability to support additional data services.
