HMS Industrial Networks Unveils Netbiter EC350 Communication Gateway

HMS Industrial Networks has launched a new communication gateway, the Netbiter EC350. This will help users to monitor and control industrial equipment remotely.

The connectivity features of the gateway enable users to remotely manage and configure equipment including power generators, cooling systems, UPSs, wind turbines and other industrial machinery.

The Netbiter EC350 is able to connect to industrial machinery through Modbus, a serial or Ethernet and SNMP, EtherNet/IP or I/O. It then sends data to the cloud-based Netbiter Argos server leveraging Ethernet or cellular communications, explained officials.

Previously Netbiter gateways communicated using GSM/GPRS but the new Netbiter EC350 can communicate over 3G networks. This ensures enhanced performance and enables a wider geographical cellular coverage. This is because the gateway can be installed where 3G is the only available network. Netbiter EC350 supports five different 3G bands.

The remote access functionality offers users a secure connection to control machinery from remote locations using standard software applications. A secure data tunnel to the remotely located equipment further optimizes the functioning.

When Netbiter is connected to a PLC, remote debugging or programming of the PLC becomes possible by using PLC configuration software.

The new gateway features significantly higher processing power compared to previous gateways in addition to an extended memory capacity that can support up to 512 MB Flash and 1024 MB RAM (News - Alert).

The presence of two fully separated Ethernet Interfaces namely WAN and LAN ensures secure communication to the field installation. Further mobile fleet management applications can be served owing to the presence of GPS capability. An optimum number of analog and digital I/Os allow signals and sensors to be directly connected to the Netbiter gateway. Six status LEDs provide the diagnostic information.

Research company Frost and Sullivan presented HMS Industrial Networks with the “2013 European industrial communication processors new product innovation award” in May 2013. The award recognizes HMS’s new network processor, the Anybus NP40, as best in class in a global comparison.
