Pacnet and Vello Announce the First Pan-Asia NaaS Architecture

Pacnet and Vello (News - Alert) have teamed on introducing the first Pan-Asia Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform or Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN) to carriers and enterprises. The platform leverages Vello's Connectivity Exchange application based on the VellOS 7.0 Linux software platform and allows carriers to provision network bandwidth on-demand whenever they need it. Vello’s open, innovative dynamic network platform was developed in collaboration with pure-play OpenStack company Mirantis. "We are very impressed by the advanced business connectivity capabilities, such as highly-granular service level agreements, enabled by the VellOS platform," said Jon Vestal, VP of product architecture, Pacnet (News - Alert).

Scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2014, PEN will be available in 10 data centers in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. This network will then be made available in the US and China by first half of 2014 and later expanded across 14 cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Pacnet also uses VellOS Connectivity Exchange that ensures that WAN links between nations and data centers are always completely utilized. This Exchange also ensures that these links are monetized via software control of data flows related to tiered SLAs. These tiered SLAs are made possible by automatic path recalculation, on-demand provisioning, just-in-time provisioning and many other innovative Connectivity Exchange features.

"What we've achieved at Pacnet is a signal example of the significant economic and operational benefits that truly open systems can deliver," said Karl May (News - Alert), chief executive officer, Vello Systems. "The Pacnet PEN offering based on the VellOS Connectivity Exchange application represents what can be achieved in an application and environment-aware network that can adapt dynamically to changing resource requirements of critical business applications."

Pacnet provides managed data connectivity solutions to major telecommunications carriers, large multinational enterprises and government entities in the Asia-Pacific region. The company was in news earlier this week for partnering with tw telecom (News - Alert) for national E-Access Ethernet service.
