ZyXEL Communications (News - Alert), a provider of broadband networking and connected home solutions, has unveiled a new series of Layer 2 10G and gigabit managed switches designed for data center and mission critical Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications.

The new series of Ethernet switches includes XGS3700-24 / XGS3700-48 - 24 and 48 port 10G Ethernet Switches; XGS3700-24HP / XGS3700-48HP - 24 and 48 port 10G Ethernet Switches with PoE+; GS3700-24 / GS3700-48 - 24 and 48 port Gigabit Ethernet Switches; and GS3700-24HP / GS3700-48HP - 24 and 48 port Gigabit Ethernet Switches.

The 3700 series is intended for data centers, SMB core networks and other mission-critical PoE applications. They aim to help channel partners equip SMBs with the bandwidth necessary to run mobile, virtual and cloud-based applications, said Steven Joe (News - Alert), executive vice president for channel business for Americas at ZyXEL.

The GS3700 series gigabit switches support four gigabit SFP ports. All 3700 series switches also support IPv6 for future-ready networks.

The 24 and 48 port XGS3700 series 10G switches come with four 10G SFP+ uplink ports for flexible copper or fiber deployments. They can also be directly connected to virtual server and NAS / SAN storage devices using ZyXEL’s DAC10G SPF+ cables for facilitating bandwidth hungry applications.

“Their advanced feature set, backed with bullet-proof, high redundancy hardware, offer unmatched value to our partners and business customers,” Joe added.

The new series of Ethernet switches supports Equal Cost Multipath Routing (ECMP) and Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) for increased network availability and reliability. With ECMP the XGS3700/GS3700 series switch can distribute traffic across multiple high-bandwidth links to increase bandwidth availability. VRRP provides a dynamic and automatic approach to virtual router redundancy.

The PoE models are designed to comply with the IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3at PoE+ standard and provide 30W per port for a PoE power budget of up to 1000 watts. With PoE, the XGS3700 and GS3700 are ideal for high performance WLAN networks, VoIP applications, and surveillance and monitoring solutions.
