Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies is set to showcase the world’s first demonstration of Open Ethernet platforms.

Scheduled during Interop in Las Vegas from May 7-9, the Open Ethernet demonstration will include Quagga L3 open source stack running on top of Mellanox’s SwitchX based 10/40/56GbE switch systems.

Attendees of this landmark demonstration will learn how customers can run Quagga, or their customized version of Quagga, on top of Mellanox open platform Ethernet switches.

Elaborating on its Open Ethernet initiative, Mellanox Technologies says that this initiative provides customers with full flexibility and freedom to custom-design their data center.

An alternative approach to traditional closed-code Ethernet switches, Mellanox’s Open Ethernet initiative helps customers to optimize utilization, efficiency and overall return-on-investment.

“Our demonstration with Quagga highlights the power of Open Ethernet to provide the capability to fully customize open source software packages on top of Mellanox 40 and 56GbE switches,” said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “This enables our customers to add differentiation and competitive advantages in their networking infrastructure while reducing cost.”

Those interested in seeing the live Open Ethernet demonstration can do so by visiting Mellanox Technologies at booth #1339. You can also visit www.mellanox.com/interop2013/ to get more information on Mellanox’s event and speaking activities at Interop (News - Alert).

Mellanox Technologies supplies end-to-end InfiniBand and Ethernet interconnect solutions and services for servers and storage. It recently announced the “Generation of Open Ethernet” initiative through which it gives complete flexibility and freedom to its customers for custom-designing their data centers.

An alternative approach to traditional closed-code Ethernet switches, this initiative takes Software Defined Networking (SDN) to the next level.

Mellanox is set to present at the 41st Annual JP Morgan (News - Alert) Global TMT Conference in Boston on Thursday, May 16. It will also participate in Barclays Global TMT Conference in New York and 10th Annual Craig-Hallum Institutional Investor Conference in Minneapolis.

The New York and Minneapolis conferences will take place on May 22 and May 29 respectively. Webcasts of the live events as well as a replay can be viewed at company's investor relations website.
