General Electric Announces New Cost Reducing Ethernet Switch

General Electric announced the release of its latest Ethernet switch, the MultiLinkTM Ethernet Switch. The ML3000 is for use in industrial and energy applications. More devices are becoming capable of communication and as a result, the need to remotely monitor and control these devices increases. Ethernet communication provides improved reliability, faster data transfer and increased security.

As the number of ports increase, the ML3000 gives customers more flexible network design options. The design options can help lower installation time and costs by enabling users to configure the switch for as many as 32 Power of Ethernet (PoE) ports. In return, badge readers, VoIP telephones and surveillance cameras can be powered up and communicated with through a single cable. Up to 36 copper connections or 18 fiber connections provide additional wiring options.

The ML3000 is roughly built to ensure durability in harsh environments that are often found in industrial facilities, intelligent transportation systems and electrical substations. The ML3000 can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius, according to 4-Traders.

To manage the device, users use a simple Web browser via GE’s EnerVistaTM software, which provides a convenient method to program all settings with a simple point and click process. The ML3000 supports both the 802.1af PoE and 802.1 at PoE+ Power above Ethernet standards. The ML3000 is a high density substation Ethernet switch capable of supporting up to 36-ports copper, and 18-ports fiber.

It also supports up to 32-ports Power over Ethernet, which reduces the writing complexity and cost. It also has a 1588v2 that is ready for high precision timing applications. The EnerVista Web configuration is the software that allows the user to program settings via a Web browser. It is accessible by typing the pre-configured IP address of your switch into the address bar. The smooth graphical interface is user friendly and allows for easy navigation, monitoring and configuration.
