Currently, Metro Communications is going through a 700 mile fiber implementation in Central Illinois. When the project is finished in early 2014, it will serve more than 200 buildings with high performance wavelength and Ethernet services. Using the Cyan Z-Series platform will give Metro up to 2.8 Tbps of switch capacity with compact infrastructures that can be deployed at tower locations. By combining the Blue Planet SDN software, it will give Metro more control over its network so it can provide better services as well as keep track of its overall operations. The software has performance verification and billing applications from Cyan and third-party apps that keep track of configuration, management and planning. Cyan will operate the entire Metro Communications network with its personnel using the CyNOC service, giving it immediate 24/7 service availability. This eliminates the need to train personnel at Metro, saving the company additional costs.
