Kutztown University has taken Avaya’s (News - Alert) assistance to enhance its data center. Avaya's pioneering Virtual Services Platform or VSP 9000 has been implemented by Kutztown University in its network, which will aid in supporting high-tech academic applications and future enhancements in data, video, and voice technology. Students, faculty and staff therefore will be assured of dependable high-performance with zero downtime.

Kutztown University’s campus has one residential and one academic and administrative network, which supports over 10,000 students and nearly 1,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff. The University is expecting a rise in the research and scientific projects, which will require high-performance computing and enormous bandwidth capacity. With the existing networks having reached their capacities, the University has decided to upgrade its network technology. The University has sought an affordable and energy-efficient data center solution capable of fulfilling the rising traffic requirements and offering simplified network virtualization.

In a release, Kevin Schukraft, Manager of Network Technology at Kutztown University, said, "Universities are increasingly making use of applications that require enhanced performance and throughput, and this trend will continue to grow. Kutztown University's science department, for example, transfers massive amounts of data from various atmospheric research institutions that it uses to teach geological modeling. The Avaya VSP 9000 will help ensure that our network can accommodate even the most demanding cases and applications, while always staying on and available to every user. We believe it will be very effective in supporting the university's mission of educating students."

Kutztown is already utilizing the Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 data center infrastructure, which will be substituted by the Avaya VSP 9000. IT staff will be able to better serve the academic needs of the University with the help of Avaya VSP 9000’s ground-breaking, high-density, scalable architecture. Currently, the Avaya VSP 9000 supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet or GbE, and is also capable of supporting the 40 and 100 GbE standards in the future.

Kutztown University's data center will be further simplified by the Avaya VSP 9000 in collaboration with the Avaya VENA Enterprise Fabric. The latest enhancement will also help in simplifying the implementation of latest services, and virtualization of both the networks.
