BT (News - Alert) a provider of communications solutions and services announced the expansion of its Ethernet Connect services to 28 countries and the launch of its international E-LAN services.

In a release Neil Sutton, VP Global Portfolio, BT Global Services, said, “BT Connect, our portfolio of network services, is now an even richer set of services that meet the different needs of our global customers, covering IP, Ethernet, Internet and application performance management. Our customers are looking for choice and flexibility to meet evolving needs.”

“For those of our customers requiring specific services for specific needs or for those that require exclusive control of their IP architecture, Ethernet Connect is now a great global service. By extending the availability of that service to 28 countries and adding capabilities such as E-LAN, we are now offering a highly compelling solution in the market,” Sutton added.

It was revealed that the delivery of these services will enable BT to innovate with confidence in tough times. This expansion is considered a new milestone in the evolution of the BT Connect portfolio.

BT’s Ethernet Connect is an adaptive high performance Ethernet VPN (virtual private network) service. It is most suitable for large organizations providing them with exclusive control over their IP architecture. Also they can evolve their infrastructure and innovate independently.

Ethernet Connect is available in six new countries now covering 28 countries.

A new E-LAN service is being offered by BT in the 28 countries for increasing flexibility for organizations, enabling them to use Ethernet “any to any” connectivity between sites. It is leveraged to connect sites and applications characterized by complex and evolving network traffic patterns.

Ethernet Connect helps customers to benefit by combining E-Line and E-LAN services, giving organizations the ability to retain control of the IP architecture and innovate. BT offers end-to-end service management to the customer premise resulting in faster addressing of faults, said officials.

Joel Stradling, principal analyst at Current Analysis (News - Alert), stated, “BT can offer its clients a greater choice of data WAN end-to-end services. Customers increasingly need flexible bandwidth and high performance, and Ethernet fits the bill. BT can offer hybrid layer 2 Ethernet VPN plus IP/MPLS VPN service to help its enterprise clients achieve the best-fit solutions. With this extension into new countries and the launch of its E-LAN service BT is clearly improving its position in the global Ethernet market.”

Relatedly, Patton (News - Alert), a worldwide provider of Ethernet extenders and services, recently began to shop its latest high-speed Ethernet extender solution globally. The CopperLink 2174 Ethernet extender product series was initially unveiled by Patton and processed for orders in September of this year, and hundreds of kits have already shipped, according to the company. Patton’s product has engineered a device that achieves downstream line rates up to 168 Mbps and extends Ethernet segments up to 10,000 feet. The CopperLink 2174 operates over copper twisted-pair, coaxial or CAT-5+ cabling to eliminate the expense and hassle of replacing installed cable infrastructure when inter-connecting IP-enabled devices.
